Mondays and Tuesdays in November I will be leading a workshop focused on my choreographic and teaching work with The Gray. The primary reason I feel motivated to hold this workshop is to get moving and shaking more in the studio with other artists. This has been an isolating time for many artists in the dance community, including myself, and I miss y’all and want to be creative with you!
A few things:
There are a limited number of spots in the workshop. In order to attend you must register ahead of time (link at bottom of page) and be fully vaccinated. After you register, please email a photo of your proof of vaccination card to: bethterwilleger@gmail.com
If you are unable to email a photo please bring your proof of vaccination card to the workshop.Masks must be worn during the entirety of the workshop. You are welcome to step outside and take a break from your mask any time you need.
You do not need to attend the full time, two or three hours, or all of the dates of the workshop in order to participate. If you need to arrive late, please, take the time to warm up properly before jumping in. If you need to leave early just give me a heads up ahead of time so I know all is ok with you.
A bit about the workshop:
The workshop will be run mostly like my rehearsals:
We will start with a warm-up (Mondays but not Tuesdays. Tuesdays I teach open ballet at Dance Fremont 10-11:30, register here. If you do not want to or are not able to take this class please make sure to warm yourself up well before the workshop! Also, nearby at Fremont Abbey, here is another great option for a warm-up class: Emma Lawes). Warm up will be followed by a led improvisation.
The remainder of the time will be spent learning phrases from repertory and/or developing new material. My work can be physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding (or so I have been told… ;). Please, take good care of yourself as you may be moving back into more rigorous work. Make any modifications and communicate anything as needed. Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone or staying comfy and cozy are both welcome in this workshop. As a facilitator, I will be demanding and pushing as a way to explore, but you do not need to meet those demands or explore with me. This is just an invitation.
Also note, this is an advanced workshop. If you are an intermediate or beginning dancer you are absolutely welcome to attend the workshop. I only ask that you are safe with your body and with the bodies of those around you. Give yourself extra space to dance safely and provide yourself extra compassion. Being out of your comfort zone is a wonderful way to improve and I strongly encourage you to give this workshop a try!
Carpooling:
If you are interested in carpooling to either venue I encourage you to post/chat about it in this forum: Carpooling!!. Please, use Covid-19 safety protocols wisely during you carpooling.
Audition Info:
I will also be using this workshop to find dancers for an upcoming project for The Gray. The project is the James Ray Residency Program that will conclude with a performance at Seattle International Dance Festival in June. Rehearsal and performance dates are not yet set. This workshop will allow me to see how you move in different scenarios as well as see how you work with myself and with other dancers. Rehearsals, to me, are more important than the performance. So ensuring there is a good fit all around is a priority. Pay for hired dancers is $15 per hour for both rehearsal and performance time.
If you are interested in auditioning but have further questions or concerns please feel free to reach out: bethterwilleger@gmail.com
