Beth Twigs
Bio
Beth Twigs (aka Terwilleger: artistic director/choreographer, The Gray) grew up in Santa Cruz, California, and always felt free to allow her imagination to thrive. She spent her early childhood years creating worlds, theatrical performances, and dance extravaganzas. At a young age she was introduced to ballet and immediately fell in love. So driven by this new passion, she forgot her roots were truly planted in creation and not personal performance. After spending ten years with Ballet Austin in Texas and freelancing in San Francisco and London, she has re-found her roots here in Seattle and has spent the past few years passionately exploring, generating, and supporting dance works here in this city. She had once thought that this imaginative part of her brain was left in those childhood years but is excited to have found that it does still exist through her choreographic practice.
ballet
Beth's ballet classes focus on exploration and movement through the framework of classical dance. She encourages individuality, intelligence, and autonomy in her classes and loves supporting dancers in this creative space. Her ballet class is aimed at preparing dancers for whatever their dance environment is asking of them; be it classical work or contemporary dance.
Beth’s class is an intermediate/advanced class but she welcomes all levels to give it a try. She only requests that each dancer has strong spacial awareness and gives adequate space to other dancers for their own safety and the safety of those around them.
contemporary
Beth’s contemporary class focuses on conditioning the body for dance, big movements and travel, large weight shifting, and musicality. She guides the dancers through all parts of the body encouraging fine tuned awareness as well as fearless expansion. After a lead warm-up, Beth transitions the class into phrases from her choreographic work. She encourages the dancers to use this time to explore the specificities of her creative language while also feeling the pleasure of putting their own voices into the work.
This class is an intermediate/advanced class but all levels are welcome to give it a try. Again, she only requests that each dancer has strong spatial awareness and gives adequate space to other dancers for their own safety and the safety of those around them. This class is a good class to tailor and adjust to your needs and you are encouraged to do so.
